A model community

Boulder City, Nev. was built by the Bureau of Reclamation in 1931 to house workers helping to build nearby Hoover Dam. This view of the Nevada Highway is perfect in its balance of roadside signage. Gorgeous motel neon and bold cafe signs call out to the parade of colorful cars. At the time of this 1950s photo, Boulder City had 3,500 residents. Today, more than 15,000 people call it home.
